Estate Gifts
A will is the foundation of an Estate Plan.

In addition to being an effective way to distribute your estate, your will or living trust can be a vehicle through which to make charitable gifts.

It may seem clear, for example, that if you plan to leave your estate to your children, they will be the beneficiaries. However, there may be a "hidden" beneficiary, that receives 40, 45, 50 percent or more of your estate.

This so-called hidden beneficiary is the tax collector. Federal estate tax rates, not to mention state death tax rates, go up to 55 percent on taxable estates above $3 million.

Options within a will for consideration are:
  • cash
  • multi-year pledge
  • gift of stock
  • beneficiary from insurance policies
  • donations from trusts
